If you have any questions about staying in a ski chalet, La Tania or the Three Valleys in general, you may find some of the answers here.
Where is La Tania?
This is a ski resort set high in the French Alps. It's part of the world-famous Thee Valleys ski and winter sports area.
What's the skiing like?
There are about 150km of pistes with heights ranging between 1300-2700 metres. You can connect with the famous resorts and slopes of Meribel, Val Thorens and Courchevel. There is also a nursery slope in the centre of the village. Many of the blue and red runs are north facing and snow cannons are there to cover shortages. On the whole, the snow record is good.
What's the accommodation and culture like?
The resort was purpose built in the 1990s for the winter Olympics. It provides a wide range of accommodation for all budgets, but perhaps tends to target more moderately priced requirements than the typically slightly more expensive locations of Courchevel and Meribel.
If you're looking for a good quality but sensibly priced chalet, La Tania may well be able to meet your needs.
How's the après-ski?
There is a very good range of bars and restaurants to cater for all tastes.
Generally the resort is known as being lively rather than sedate, but it doesn't make the transition into rowdiness and excess that may come with some ski resorts.
Is it easy to get to?
Yes! Flights are into Geneva or Chambery. Rail links from Paris (some through connections from London also) are to Moutiers, which is only about half an hour away by road. Driving is also easy, with excellent autoroute or dual carriageway connections from the channel ports to within just a few kilometres of the resort and local roads from there. In terms of your chalet, La Tania chalets will most likely be located just outside of the very centre as the central areas tend to be occupied by hotel and apartment accommodation.
What are prices like?
That varies. For example, in terms of eating, it's possible to eat good, modest food at reasonable prices, but equally there is Michelin star level cuisine available where, obviously, you'll be paying considerably more.Generally, prices overall may strike you as being reasonable compared to some other resorts and it's usually possible to save by taking special deals and lift pass options.
Can you take lessons?
Yes, there are excellent schools available with fully qualified instructors.
Are group or dedicated chalets available?
Yes. There are innumerable options available from shared to dedicated (group or family) - entirely as you require.
How would you sum up the resort?
This is a great resort with some excellent skiing - and one which links up well with the total Three Valleys network. It offers a slightly more homely alternative to the rather more polished locations such as Meribel and Courchevel. If you're looking for a chalet, La Tania has some good accommodation coupled with a relaxing and vibrant culture.
